Clamp your boom down there to start with. Then fly it in rate mode, if its moving nose left, land it and tighten the rod one round and try again until you get it mechanically trimmed in rate mode.

I suspect many scale flyers will use rate mode for a more scale-like appearance. As Brutus said, FBL flight can look quite unnatural if you're comparing your heli to full size.
